Summer Solstice Strawberry Moon

Moon pics tonight. Tried using the sony, but even with high pixel count for cropping the moon was just a dot. Pull out the old Nikon and long lens and still cropped the hell out of it.

Per online instructions: 200 ISO, 1/200 sec, f/10. Bracketed and used the brightest one.

A Storm Blowing In

A few days ago was one of those typical PNW, spring days. Sunshine. Puffy clouds. Dark, ominous clouds. Something different in every direction. Grabbed the dog and the cameras and headed out into the center of the valley.

Storm Clouds Regrets

One of those nights when I should have gotten into the car and drove out to a good viewpoint. The clouds were spectacular, and they got even better a few minutes after these two were shot.

Cheadle Lake Run

This weekend was crazy busy with birthdays, and Mother's day, and a local event: Cheadle Lake Run. Ron and I volunteered to help out on the course, and take photos.

My first mistake was not using a fast enough shutter speed. Most of the images are a little blurry when looking closely, but as digital images and snapshots they aren't too bad. It gave me a chance to do a lot of post processing, and I see that my style as leaning a little into the unrealistic HDR look. I don't mind doing this as a stylistic element from time to time, but I don't want it to become a regular feature of my processing style. Here's just a few for example.

New Software

Downloaded some Nik software and have been playing around with it. Over the top processing, but that what makes it fun sometimes.

Cheadle Lake HDR. A fine example of over cooked. :)

Cheadle Lake Times Two

Went for a mid-morning run at Cheadle Lake. Stopped for a few pics on the last lap. It was so pretty with all the wild flowers and baby ducks and geese. Only the flowers lingered for the photo op. All photos from the iphone. I posted them to Facebook and Instagram earlier, but these were processed in lightroom, so hopefully a little better.

This evening Ron and I returned for a walk with the dog. This time I brought the Sony. I read an article earlier this week about hand-held HDR photos, so I decided to give it a try. I've done very few HDR images, so it's all rather new to me.
Single image processed in Lightroom.
My somewhat garish attempt at HDR. Photoshop and Lightroom.
I must say I prefer the single image, processed photo.
